The Rider

The Rider
The legend says that somewhere in the middle of strange and dangerous forest there lived a tribe of warrior women. Ugly and terrifying their beasts were...
How was it done? I took a picture of a girl as a reference. The reference for the beast was made with some help from DAZ Productions. I used their 3D model of Styracosaurus. The quick render was made in Cinema4D. Then I started to pain in Photoshop. I used mostly hard round brush with adding some textures to it.
Here are some close-ups of the painting:

Another fantasy work of mine. Another warrior-girl.
The idea always comes first. I did a sketch, and then I took a reference picture of a girl in my studio. After that I switched to a 3D part of this project - many elements of the picture were roughly rendered in Cinema 4D. Then I brought everything in Photoshop and started to add details and colors. It is fascinating to watch how the colors interact with each other. I tried it give it a lot of thought and care.
This is a personal project. While doing it I learned some new things about blending colors in Photoshop and using highly saturated colors.
So, this is the picture…

In the Throne Room

When the door suddenly swings open of it own volition, your body is jerked violently by the vibration of a dozen drums. The queen is there. Behold, stranger!..

I wanted to create something like that for a long time. Now I am glad that I did it :-)
This work is done mostly in Photoshop though I used some 3D elements to boost realism. The most interesting discovery I did during this painting is the use of Texture option in Photoshop brushes. The textured brushes rule!!! It is just amazing how much details they can add in a very short time. The three metal heads of the beasts were originally created in ZBrush but were painted over in Photoshop afrewards.

Hope, you will not be too harsh on me. :-)

The Priestess of the Snake God

It has been a really hard work. I did a sketch after a sketch, then rendered details, then threw everything away and started all over.
"Between the years when the oceans drank Atlantis and the gleaming cities, and the rise of the sons of Aryas, there was an Age undreamed of, when shining kingdoms lay spread across the world like blue mantles beneath the stars..." Do you remember this lines by Robert E. Howard? They sound damn good, don't they? My priestess belongs to this time. She worshiped the god whose terrible deeds are now forgotten by the realm of men. Only the stealthy snakes of the desert keep remembering everything. Though, they will not share the mystery...

These are some close-ups of the painting:

Anticipation

It took a while to finish this work. The very process was fascinating. One more time I came to a conclusion that no amount of theory will substitute for practice :-) I have made some new personal discoveries creating this image. New notions about color blending, about lighting and color scheme. The idea of a bone swimming suit was interesting in its realization as well.

The girl is a warrior. She lives in the wildness among strange beasts and the dazzling beauty of this magical land. Sometimes she likes to stay calmly and quietly on a lonely rock waiting for something. What is she waiting for? It is not for me to answer...

Egyptian Theme

This picture was influenced by many things. The works of Lawrence Alma-Tadema and Godward come to mind. Maybe, the movie "The Mummy" (which I happened to watch not long ago) is to blame. In addition I wanted to imitate this loose painterly style of Pino.
One more time I am having a problem choosing a category for this picture. It is not exactly 2D and it is not exactly 3D. More like 2.5 :-) The background was rendered in Cinema4D, the girl was photographed in my home studio, and the tiger was painted. I heavily used Photoshop and Painter in attempt to bring it all together.
Hope, you will not be too harsh on me :-)

The Tribute to Luis Royo

I tried to create something in the style of Luis Royo. This picture was heavily influenced by the painting called "Dark Elf's Kiss". I thought it might be interesting to recreate the classical painting using the means of CG and photography. However, the more I worked the farther away from the original it went. Step by step, I changed the color scheme, the textures of the weapons, the wings, the tattoos, the composition, etc. :-)

The girl was photographed by me, all the props are CG.
Martin "A Song Of Ice And Fire". There was a moment there when one of the characters found a skeleton of a dragon in the desert. I wanted to depict that moment of the discovery.

The skeleton was modeled in Cinema 4D. The render was done in Vue. There was a very little afterwork in Photoshop. Basically, I just painted the traces of the hooves on the sand.
